What Should the Collector Do?

The Participants’ Training Manuals contain 2 sets of pages for this sub-topic, too. Ask them to turn to the first set of pages which contains only the description of each problem and some questions to generate discussion. Ask different participants to read each of the following problems. Then, ask for the group’s opinions concerning what they think the appropriate response to each of the questions should be.

After a brief discussion, if they have not correctly stated the answers, you can either tell them what each one is and encourage them to write it in the space provided for each “Response” or you can ask them to turn to the second set of pages and read each response silently as either you or one of the participants reads it aloud.

PROBLEM #1: Lisa is a 20 year old college student who will be living in Spain for 4 months on an internship. Before she leaves the U.S., she makes arrangements for the payment of a debt, writes four checks, places them in sealed envelopes and gives the envelopes to her mother to be mailed on the first of each month with no other explanation. Her concerned mother calls the agency whose name is on the outside of the envelope to get further details about her daughter’s debt in order to help her daughter pay it off.
